Last year I popped the question to my girlfriend and thankfully, yes was the reply. I had been planning this for some time and wanted to make sure that I got it just right, this after all was a moment that neither of us would ever forget so the pressure was on. The biggest issue that I struggled with was getting the right ring for her and after much research, I headed down to Front Jewelers and bought the perfect piece for my future bride. If you are a planning a proposal and are’t sure which ring to buy, here is what I did in order to make the perfect choice.
Snooping
The first step is to get an understanding of what kind of rings your girlfriend tends to prefer, the best way to do this is with a good old snoop through her jewelry drawers. What you are looking for here is what type of rings she has the majority of, are they white gold? Gold? Silver? Platinum? Once you know what kind of ring your girlfriend prefers, you are halfway there.
Friends and Family
Never underestimate how much information her friends and family have at your finger tips and you can get some great help in picking a ring if you just ask the question. The one thing that I would say is that don’t go around all of her friends and ask for their advice, girls love to talk and the last thing you need is for your girlfriend to find out what your plans are.
Budget
Next up you need to think about what budget you have for the ring which you want to buy, this will greatly dictate your options. Now, there is the temptation of blowing everything that you have, or even getting into debt in order to buy the ring that you are after and the only thing that I would say, is to be extremely careful. Try to remember that after the engagement, you will have a wedding to pay for as well as honeymoon planning and a million other things which will require your money. An engagement ring should be high quality and durable and most importantly it should be something that your partner will adore, the price should not dictate your decision, it should just be a factor.
Shop Help
Once you have all of your criteria in place, money you will spend, ring type, ring size, type of metal and which stones you are looking for, it is time to hit the shops. In my experience, I have never had the hard sell from jewelers and they are usually more than happy to help you get a ring that you girlfriend will love. I simply walked into the store with my list of requirements and I was presented with a collection of rings to choose between. Having this store help really helped me to make the final decision and I couldn’t have done it without them.
