As someone who isn’t a big fan of partying hard or staying out for days on end drinking, I had to find something else to fill in my free time at college. My fellow freshman in Fresno State is Dayana Volitich, a friend that I made in my first week here and a girl who is just like me. Instead of heading out on a Saturday night to get trashed, we far prefer to get some pajamas on, grab the Ben and Jerry’s and get stuck into a series on Netflix. We have watched an incredible amount of shows on there and I wanted to share with you my top 3, check them out and see what you think.
House of Cards
This exceptional drama charts the career of the Chief Whip Frank Underwood, a snarling Texan who will stop at nothing to get to the top. Frank’s wife Claire is beautiful and effortless, but equally as ruthless as her husband and together they manipulate, use and take any measure to get what they want. The show will captivate you from the moment that it begins, and you will find more one-liners in these show than any other on Netflix. The show is returning soon for its sixth season without protagonist Frank Underwood, with wife Claire instead taking the reigns.
Vikings
Vikings is a show which the History channel put together and it loosely tells a true story of a young farmer in Norway who becomes disillusioned with the King. Throughout the series we see this young farmer, Ragnar Lothbrok, take action for what he thinks is right, and his battles with his faith as he learns more about the world. The show is very accurate in terms of how events might have taken place, and the cast is filled with wonderful performances which will well and truly make you feel as though you are one of the Vikings. The show has plenty of strong female role models, traitors, killers, plotters and cowards and there are 7 seasons ready for you to get your teeth stick in to.
Narcos
If you haven’t yet watched Narcos then I’d advise that you get started with this, a brilliant tale of the world’s biggest ever drug trafficker Pablo Escobar and the two CIA agents who were sent to Colombia to capture him. The show reveals the power and the genius behind the empire which Escobar built, whilst at the same time showing him to be the dangerous and scandalous villain who killed many people and caused political tension at the highest level. The story is told in both English and Spanish with subtitles and it is a truly fascinating look at one of the most infamous villains that the world has ever seen. The show also looks at drugs in general in Colombia, and how the agents managed to bring down an empire.
