They know of upcoming elections and think they have something to offer that other candidates do not. Perhaps they already have a good relationship with the police, personal experience with resolving drink driving, a network within a troubled estate, and so on, and they believe they can use this to improve outcomes in their town. Whether someone lives in Mattiuck, Southold, or anywhere else in the country, there are always issues that need to be resolved. One way in which Christopher aims to achieve this is by showing people how they can run a successful campaign. And while he understands that people want to do things themselves, he believes that one of the best ways to win a campaign is by actually working together. Naturally, this should happen only with the right people.
If you hope to win a large election campaign, you probably need a campaign manager. However, these are people with a significant amount of experience and they tend to not come cheap. Another option would be to work together with a trusted and respected community leader. These are people who may be willing to volunteer for your campaign, helping you with their knowledge, skills, and experience, in return for very little other than political support. This should not be too difficult to provide. You also have to consider the administrative work that is involved with running an election campaign, so if there is anybody who is willing to spend some time dealing with your diary, your correspondence, and your appointments, then it would be helpful.
To run a successful election campaign, you have to be honest with yourself. This means knowing what your own limits are and not exceeding these. If there is more to do than what you can handle by yourself, then you will need someone to help you. Unfortunately, the world of politics is also one of distrust and mistrust, so you may be slightly worried about who it is that is supposed to help you while guaranteeing they will not effectively stab you in the back.
That being said, if you are serious about running an election campaign, then you should have already made links within your own community. You should have already gotten to know the people that will support you the most and the people who you can therefore Trust. Why not ask them to help you help them? Not everybody wants financial remuneration in return for helping an election campaign. They may see in you an opportunity to make the changes they would like to make themselves if they had the opportunity. Remember that you cannot be in politics without the help and support of your community, so you may as well embrace any help that is given to you.
