It really has been a cold one this winter and we all go through the conundrum of keeping the house warm in winter’s frostiest moments. There is nothing worse than having to get up in the morning for work and having to peel yourself out of bed into the freezing cold atmosphere your home has become. Below I have included some tips about the best and most efficient ways to keep your house nice and toasty this winter without having to sky rocket your gas and electric bills. Stick with a few of them and you will keep yourself right, right until spring.
Use your Heating Timer
It is always so easy to just whack the heating on and let it burn through the house all day and night when your place is feeling chilly, however if you are anything like me I like to be a little bit more thrifty when it comes to the thermostat. One of my favourite ways to control the heating I am using is the timer I have, doing this utilises the heat and fills the house in peak times when it’s needed. It doesn’t only stop the heat becoming overwhelming but it will allow enough time for your house to warm and knock itself off. Dependent on what type of boiler you have you can also control this via an application on your phone which can come in extremely handy.
Turning the Heating Down
For years whenever I was cold I would just stick the heating on full blast and bask in the warmness, without really thinking about what it was doing to my bill. You would be extremely surprised how much money turning down your heating can save you without really feeling a lot of difference. Evidently this will save you money whilst also keeping the temperature at a bearable level. You can keep an eye on this and how much money you are saving with the smart meters that are now available.
Check your Windows
In a lot of homes there are windows that can allow a lot of heat to escape, I know that replacing them are going to cost money however it will be cost effective in the long run. Whilst having other benefits such as keeping out external noise that can usually blast through older windows, fitting your house out with energy efficient windows benefits you all year round. I was having such a problem with drafts and heat leaving via every window in my house and called a local company CBI Tulsa which solved my problem and I am really starting to reap the benefits.
Get Cosy
Hopefully a few of these tips can help you keep nice and warm in the winter months and allow you to save as much money as you can. So put your feet up get cosy and binge on all of the holiday candy and treat yourself to a Christmas film like Die Hard (definitely a Christmas film)
